About
Kate Rae is a West Australian artist and designer with a diverse range of skills and experience. Drawn to both the arts and sciences, Kate’s creative pursuits have evolved through studies across architecture, visual arts, and metalsmithing.
Working as an architect honed Kate’s skills in the planning, design and management of complex projects. Since making the decision to establish a stronger work/life balance she has been working as a contemporary jeweller, sculptor, designer, and public art consultant.
Kate’s design approach is holistic, purposeful, sustainable, and enduring in its distinctiveness. Inspired by the expressive lines and geometric forms of the natural and built environment, her work explores the relationships between people, objects, and place through the creative use of spatial composition, materiality, and fabrication techniques.
As well as pursuing her own artworks, Kate brings her diverse and unique experience to her role as Art Consultant in the procurement of artworks for the public realm. Her knowledge of cultural engagement, place making, spatial design, construction and project management offers genuine value to projects that wish to invest in public artworks. Kate collaborates with developers, cultural advisors, design teams and artists to deliver successful public art projects.
Kate hopes to bring high level advice to projects from the early concept design stages to maximise investment opportunities and mitigate band-aid solutions. Driven by the belief that art and design are essential in the creation of welcoming spaces and the positive impact these have on the daily lives of those who engage with them should not be undervalued.
